The terrain is varied — flat plains alternating with rocky out-crops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. Transfer from Beruwala to Galle.Old Town of Galle and its Fortification: The port town of Galle is Sri Lanka's fourth biggest town with a population of around 1lakh. The town was founded by the Portuguese in 16th century. In 1598, the Portuguese built a small fort which was later extended. However, when the Dutch took over in 1640, they destroyed all traces of the Portuguese presence. In 1663, the Dutch built the 36-hectare Fort, which is now a World Heritage Site. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and South-East Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and South Asian traditions.

Day 11: Colombo city tour After breakfast proceed on a city tour of Colombo. COLOMBO.. Sri Lanka”s capital up to recent times, is spread along the shore of the Indian Ocean for some miles, where business and commerce begin and end. A drive through the city will take you to Colombo”s most fashionable residential district - the Cinnamon Gardens and the Pettah, Colombo”s busiest and most traditional bazaar area. Visits to the Hindu temple with elaborate stone carvings, the Dutch Church at Wolfendhal dating back to 1749, the historic Devatgahaha mosque and the Gangarama Temple. The shopping is good too! While the city holds less obvious interest than many other parts of the island, it's still a colourful enough place and worth a visit to see what makes Sri Lanka tick. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay at Galadari Hotel.
